Pokemon Violet: Overview
Pokemon Violet and Scarlet are part of the 2022 Game Freak Developers. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company published it for the Nintendo Switch Roms.
Since you can choose any version of this game, we chose Pokemon Violet. It is the first installment in the 9th generation of the Pokemon Video game series.
It was announced in February and later released on November 18, 2022. The Pokemon Violet DLC was released on September 13, 2023, with an expansion pass storyline.
In this series, you will see 110 new Pokemon with two regional forms and creatures. They are time-displaced creatures named Paradox Pokemon. We loved how Pokemon transformed into its exclusive “Tera Type” in this game.
The game has features similar to its previous modern gameplays. You will see large open areas and Pokemon coming in the overworld. Both Pokemon Violet and Scarlet got mixed reviews from critics. We are also here to give you the Pokemon Violet review.
Apart from our views, Pokemon Violet is the lowest-rated mainline game in the series. So, we are also keeping low expectations from this game. The overview of this game was interesting to us. We loved the new Pokemon and regional variants like Lechonk, the adorable pig Pokemon.
The character interaction and animation felt repetitive. Also, the dialogue options are limited. We saw some shortcomings in the environmental details. It is vast and diverse, but some areas can feel crowded. Or sometimes it lacks finer details.
Pokemon Violet: Storyline
Pokemon Violet starts in the Paldea region of the Pokemon universe. The universe was based on the Iberian Peninsula. Scarlet and Violet offer a unique storyline depending on your chosen academy. One is Naranja (past-focused), and the other is Uva (future-focused).
The Paldea region has diverse environments, including big lakes, wastelands, and mountain ranges. We see a large crater named Great Crater of Paldea in the region’s center.
You have to attend either the Naranja or Uva Academy. It has an annual “Treasure Hunt” that motivates students to get something they love. They have to explore the region for this hunting.
Two legendary Pokemon, Koraidon or Miraidon, join and assist them during the hunting. They must participate in three stories: Victory Road, Starfall Street, and Path of Legends.
Now let’s talk about the Individual storyline:
Victory Road
The classic Gym challenges return to Victory Road. Eight Gym leaders have to fight to get the Champion title. Nemona is the Champion ranked trainer here. She is the rival and battles with the player. After defeating eight gym leaders, they can get the champion rank.
Here is a twist: they must defeat the region’s Elite Four and Top Champion, Geeta. After that, Nemona will challenge the Playes to a final battle.
Starfall Street
You will see a shy schoolgirl, Penny, on Starfall Street. Players have to help Penny and stand up against Team Star. Team Star bullies everyone in the academy.
It turns out that Team Star was actually to stop bullying. The Players find out Penny is the leader of the Team Star. After defeating her, the Academy director offers peace with Team Star.
Path of Legends
You must team up with Arven to fight Giant Pokemon guarding powerful herbs. Once you defeat the Pokemon, you must explore a forbidden zone. Together you venture into a mysterious area with ancient/future Pokemons.
You will learn that the professor you knew was already dead. You were interacting with an AI made by the professor this whole time. The AI wants to keep using the time machine. You must stop it to save the region.
in the Final battle, you fight the AI and destroy the time machine. Then you return to school, win the battle against teachers, and become the champion.

Pokemon Violet: Gameplay
The gameplay structure of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is pretty basic. It is a perfect game for beginners. It follows the basic rules of previous Pokemon Games.
You have to obtain creatures like Pokemon by catching and trading. Then use them to explore the world and fight other Pokemon Trainers. Recently, a new feature has been added to Pokemon Violet. The new feature allows players to select battle trainers on paths.
We loved this feature because we got to choose our own rivals. You will see both Urban and open wilderness in the open world. The Terastal phenomenon adds a strategic layer to the battles. You can make the gameplay more dynamic by going to Auto-battle mode.
The game shows us 112 new Pokemon, including three starter Pokemon. They are Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. You can also play with new legendary Pokémon, Koraidon, and Miraidon.
Pokemon Violet also allows players to personalize their character, and their Pokemon adds a personal touch to the experience. We loved the multiplayer features where we can play with multiple players.
We enjoyed the various quests such as Blueberry quests, Tera Raids, Treasure Hunting, and Completing the Pokemon Violet Pokedex. They also allowed us to train our Team and participate in ranked online battles.
Pokemon Violet Gameplay Challenges

- Shiny Badge: Only use the Pokemon you encounter as shinies.
Pokemon Violet: Technical Overview
The resolution was 1080p docked and 720 mobile (dynamic with potential drops). We did not like the art style of the Pokemon Violet. It was Cel-shaded with some textured elements. The art style was specifically better for kids, not adults like us.
The performance targets 30fps. But often suffers from frame drops and stuttering, especially in open areas. The draw distances were limited with noticeable pop-in of objects and textures.
The lighting and shadow were simple and basic. we experienced some inconsistent frame rates and frequent drops. Overall, the visuals lack graphical fidelity compared to other open-world titles on Switch.
Pokemon Violet vs. Scarlet: Which is better?
Pokemon Violet vs. Scarlet, Which one is better? We tried both of them to get the answer. First of all, let’s talk about the exclusives that both of the game features:
Each version has exclusive Pokémon you can only see in that game. Both versions have their own legendary Pokémon with unique designs and abilities.
These powerful ancient or futuristic variants are different between versions. Which means you are getting diverse team options.
You’ll meet different professors with slightly different expertise in each game. Your character’s outfit and the villain team’s colors differ, though this is mostly cosmetic.
The Scarlet focuses on a prehistoric and fiery theme. It is reflected in the red color scheme and some Pokémon designs. The Violet features a futuristic and technological theme. You will see the theme in the blue color scheme and robotic elements in some Pokémon.
We found both stories generally good. But you can choose anyone based on your preferences. Moreover, both games have similar visuals and open-world designs.
In terms of versions, we liked Pokemon Violet more than Scarlet. The Violet has a futuristic theme that matches our current generation. We saw new Pokemon based on the theme and Violet has better ones. The challenges and everything relate to the future. Overall, Pokemon Violet wins.
Pokemon Violet: Our Overall Experience
Overall, Pokemon Violet is a fun game to play with your friends. It’s not as high-quality as we expected. We can say this game is for Kids and teenagers. We liked the challenges and overall gameplay mechanics. It was super easy and basic for beginners.
Pokemon Violet reminds us of our childhood Pokemon games. It is similar to previous Pokemon series. So, it felt good after going through our childhood memories. Overall, it is an average Pokemon game, and we give it a 6/10 rating.
What We Liked
- Explore freely! A big, open world to roam around in.
- Cool new Pokémon to catch and train. Shiny robots!
- Fun story with different paths to choose. Be a hero!
- Team up with friends: battle and explore together.
What We Didn’t Like
- The game can be slow sometimes. Not consistently smooth sailing.
- Some areas look a bit plain. It’s not super fancy graphics.
- Bugs can pop up here and there. Annoying surprises!
